The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Lagos Branch, has welcomed newly called lawyers into the profession with its 2026 New Wigs Induction Programme, designed to equip young lawyers with practical knowledge, career guidance and professional connections.
The second edition of the programme, held on September 10, 2026, at Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors, PAS World Centre, Lekki, Lagos, brought together branch leaders and experienced practitioners from private practice, in-house counsel, government service, development finance, technology, intellectual property and international practice.
The programme provided the new wigs with insights into the realities of legal practice while encouraging them to build strong professional relationships and actively participate in the activities of the NBA Lagos Branch.
Speaking to the newly called lawyers, Mrs. Uchenna Ogunedo Akingbade urged them to embrace the nobility of the legal profession and uphold high standards of ethics and integrity.
She also encouraged the new wigs to build meaningful professional relationships, avoid burning bridges and conduct themselves in ways that would contribute positively to their professional growth and success.
The session, “NBA and You,” facilitated by Kelechukwu Uzoka, Secretary, NBA Lagos Branch, and Moshood Abiola, introduced the new wigs to the NBA, its structures and activities, with particular emphasis on the opportunities available within the Lagos Branch.
Another session, “YLF and You,” led by Gideon Edem, Chairman, Young Lawyers Forum, focused on the importance of mentorship, engagement and active participation in the young lawyers' community.
A major highlight of the programme was the career panel, “Different Paths, One Profession: Building a Successful Legal Career,” moderated by Oghenemega Igbru and coordinated by Linda Daramola.
The panel featured Adeleke Alex-Adedipe, Abuchi Ngene, Osiri Ndukwe, Ayoola Olusunmbola and Adebimpe Bada, who shared practical experiences and career lessons from different areas of legal practice, including private practice, development finance, technology and intellectual property, business operations and government service.
The programme also featured another career-focused session titled “Beyond the Wig: Navigating Your Path to a Successful Legal Career.”
Moderated by Josephine Ogbonna and coordinated by Linda Daramola, the session featured Sunday Maji, Emmanuel Agidi, Joshua Abe, Gloria George and Jubril Kareem, who offered practical perspectives on career development, professional growth, workplace relationships and the different pathways available to lawyers.
The diversity of the speakers and their professional backgrounds demonstrated the wide range of opportunities available to young lawyers, including international practice, private practice, in-house counsel and public service.
Beyond the formal sessions, the induction programme provided an avenue for the new wigs to interact with senior members of the Bar, experienced practitioners and fellow young lawyers, thereby creating opportunities for mentorship, networking and professional collaboration.
The NBA Lagos Branch said the initiative was part of its commitment to ensuring that newly called lawyers are not only welcomed into the profession but are also adequately equipped, connected and encouraged to build successful careers.
The organisers commended Mr. Christian Aniukwu, Chairman of the New Wigs Induction & Placement Committee, for his leadership and commitment to delivering what was described as a memorable and impactful programme.
The central message of the induction was that while the Call to Bar represents a significant milestone, it marks only the beginning of a lawyer's journey in the profession.
Welcome to the Bar. Welcome to NBA Lagos.
I can also make this more like a NAN/Tribune legal-news report, with a sharper news intro and less promotional language.
