Dr. Samson R. Osagie to attend NBA Sapele branch 2026 Law Week as Guest Speaker

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Sapele Branch, Delta State, has invited the former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice of Edo State, Dr. Samson Raphael Osagie, to serve as a guest speaker at its 2026 Law Week.

The Law Week, scheduled to hold from November 24 to 27, 2026, is themed:

“Corporate Social Responsibility.”

In an invitation letter addressed to Osagie, Managing Partner of Samson Ima Osagie & Associates, the branch said the Executive and entire membership were pleased to extend the invitation to him to participate in the programme.

The branch said his participation as a guest lecturer would contribute meaningfully to the success of the Law Week and the intellectual engagement of its members.

The public lecture, scheduled for Friday, November 27, 2026, will focus on the theme, “Corporate Social Responsibilities of Companies to Host Communities: The Legal and Economic Perspectives.”

According to the branch, the lecture is designed to awaken the consciousness of corporate organisations operating in Sapele and its surrounding communities to their responsibilities towards the development and wellbeing of their host communities.

The branch explained that its planned morning programmes for Wednesday and Thursday would be devoted strictly to community outreach and development initiatives, in line with the overall theme of the Law Week.

It said the NBA, as a corporate organisation, sought to lead by example by contributing meaningfully to the development of communities where its members practise their profession.

The branch further noted that experience had shown that corporate organisations that prioritise social responsibility could improve their efficiency, attract customers and employees, and ultimately increase profitability.

It said the development challenged the long-standing proposition of economist Milton Friedman that “the business of business is business.”

The NBA Sapele Branch said Osagie was carefully selected as Guest Lecturer because of his extensive experience in law, legislation, public administration and corporate governance.

It highlighted his years of service as a legislator at both the Edo State House of Assembly and the House of Representatives, where he served as Minority Whip between 2011 and 2015.

The branch also recalled his contribution to legislative reforms, including his involvement in the development of the Petroleum Industry Bill, which culminated in the enactment of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) in 2021.

According to the branch, the PIA subsequently established the Host Communities Development Trust framework, providing a statutory mechanism for host communities to benefit from economic activities in their areas.

The NBA Sapele Branch also pointed to Osagie’s contributions to the legal profession, including his service as former Chairman of the African Bar Association (Nigeria Forum) and Vice President of the African Bar Association for the West African Region between 2023 and 2025.

It further cited his experience in strategic public administration and corporate governance, particularly his service as Executive Director, Marketing and Business Development at NIGCOMSAT from 2017 to 2019.

The branch expressed confidence that Osagie’s wealth of experience would provide participants, particularly management representatives of corporate organisations in Sapele and neighbouring communities, with valuable insights into the legal and economic dimensions of corporate social responsibility.

It appealed to the former Edo State Attorney-General to accommodate the invitation in his busy schedule and honour the branch by delivering the public lecture.

Responding to the invitation on behalf of Osagie, Samson Ima Osagie & Associates, in a letter dated September 11, 2026, conveyed the acceptance of the invitation.

The letter, signed on behalf of the firm, acknowledged the branch’s invitation requesting Osagie to attend the Law Week programme as guest speaker.

“We wish to convey the acceptance of our Principal of your invitation and to thank you for considering him worthy of the role you want him to play during the Law Week,” the firm stated.

Osagie also extended his best wishes to members of the Sapele branch and expressing his readiness to join them for the programme, Deo volente.
