NIGERIAN LAW SOCIETY MOURNS THE PASSING OF HON. JUSTICE UMARU ATU KALGO (RTD), JSC, CON

The Nigerian Law Society (NLS) mourns with profound sadness and a deep sense of loss the passing of Hon. Justice Umaru Atu Kalgo (RTD), JSC, CON, a distinguished jurist, respected elder of the Bar and Bench, and an eminent Nigerian who made invaluable contributions to the development and administration of justice in Nigeria.

Justice Umaru Atu Kalgo served the Nigerian Judiciary with distinction and honour, culminating in his elevation to the Supreme Court of Nigeria, where he contributed immensely to the development of Nigerian jurisprudence through his wealth of knowledge, sound reasoning, courage and unwavering commitment to the rule of law.

His Lordship's judicial career was characterised by integrity, discipline, intellectual excellence and fidelity to justice. His contributions to the legal profession and the Nigerian Judiciary will remain an enduring part of our nation's legal history.

The Nigerian Law Society particularly acknowledges his distinguished service to the nation and his commitment to the preservation of the independence, dignity and sanctity of the Judiciary.

His passing represents not only a great loss to his immediate family, but also a profound loss to the legal profession, the Judiciary and Nigeria as a whole.

On behalf of the Nigerian Law Society, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Justice Umaru Atu Kalgo, the Honourable Chief Justice of Nigeria, the Justices of the Supreme Court, the entire Nigerian Judiciary, the Body of Benchers, the Nigerian Bar Association and all members of the legal profession who mourn this great jurist.

At this difficult moment, we pray that Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala forgives his shortcomings, accepts his good deeds, grants him Al-Jannatul Firdaus and gives his family and loved ones the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.

Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un.

May Allah SWT illuminate his grave, widen it for him and make it a garden from the gardens of Jannah.
