Alleged Cyber Bullying and Defamation: Realtor Edith Aigbefo and Samuel Onofua Petition Edo Police demand Arrest of Suspect

Lagos and Benin City-based realtor, Edith Aigbefo, and her partner Samuel Onofua, have petitioned the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, over alleged cyber bullying, cyber stalking, and criminal defamation of character by one Okoh Obaro Oreoghene.

The petition, dated August 5, 2026, was written by Douglas Ogbankwa, Esq.of Douglas Ogbankwa Law Firm on behalf of the petitioners.

Allegations in the Petition
According to the petition, the alleged culprit, Okoh Obaro Oreoghene, operating a burner Instagram account Purity Osas", posted defamatory content targeting the business and reputation of the petitioners.

The petition outlined 3 major allegations:

1. False Scam Allegation On Instagram, the suspect allegedly posted a video of Mrs. Aigbefo advertising an estate with the caption: _“ATTENTION PUBLIC….. BEWARE OF THE LATEST PROPERTY SCAMMER IN LEKKI”_, a claim the petitioners described as false and maliciously posted to ridicule her business.
2. Account Hacking: On *August 3, 2026*, the suspect allegedly hacked into Mrs. Aigbefo’s business Instagram page *“Wealthy Property Hub Limited” and posted: _“SCAM PAGE: BEWARE OF WEALTHY PROPERTY HUB!!! The only real estate firm without an office address. CEO EDITH AIGBEFO is a notorious smart online thief of the year.”_

3. Cyber Stalking & Defamation: Also on August 3, the suspect allegedly hacked confidential platforms, obtained Mr. Onofua’s photograph, and circulated a false narrative labeling him _“SAMUEL OSEMUDIAMEN aka SAMMY”_ as the CEO of a non-existent company involved in _“BTC theft and money laundering”_. The post also linked Mrs. Aigbefo as _“a senior player in the game”_.

The petitioners stated that all allegations are “false, defamatory, and intended to injure their reputation, business, and personal safety.”

Prayer to Police
Through their counsel, the petitioners urged the Edo State Commissioner of Police to “carry out a thorough investigation into this matter and bring the said culprit to book in accordance with the law.”

They cited offences under the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc) Act 2015* and the Criminal Code Act relating to cyber stalking, unlawful access, and criminal defamation.

Legal Context
Under Nigerian law, cyber stalking, identity theft, and online defamation are punishable offences. The Nigerian Army and Police have in recent times warned against the misuse of social media to impersonate and defame individuals.

Efforts to reach the alleged culprit for comment were unsuccessful as of press time.

The Edo State Police Command has acknowledged receipt of the Petition .
