PROPOSED STRIKE ACTION BY JUDICIARY STAFF UNION OF NIGERIA: POSITION OF NBA

As you may be aware, the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (“JUSUN”) issued a notice to its members directing them not to resume work with effect from tomorrow, (6th April 2021) until the Government complies with the provisions of the Constitution and other instruments which confer or re-emphasize the financial autonomy of the Judiucary.

While the reason for the proposed strike is commendable and aligns with the position of the NBA, the leadership of the NBA is however, concerned about the timing of the proposed strike (especially coming on the heels of the recent shut down of courts on account of Covid-19).

In that respect, please find attached, a statement by the President of the NBA, Mr. Olumide Akpata, stating the position of the NBA in respect of the proposed strike action and the steps which the NBA is taking in this regard.

Dr. Rapulu Nduka
Publicity Secretary,
Nigerian Bar Association
