The Nigeria in All of Us .

By:Douglas Ogbankwa Esq @douglasogbankwa@gmail.com

It is said that if you want to change the world , do the little things that form the big picture. When you wake up, make your bed , you finish eating , do the dishes.

Nigerians are always quick at putting the blame of the State of the Country on President Tinubu, Governor Okpebholo, LG Chairman Iduseri , etc., not knowing thar the greatness of a country lies not only in its leadership, but also in the followership .In fact , a country gets the leadership it deserves because the leaders are not chosen from Mars , they are chosen among the citizens .So,most Nigerians are complaining because they are not the one in the realms of affair .When a Nigerian is not in power, he becomes an activist.

It was John Fitzgerald Kennedy-former, President of the United States, said :

*Think not what your country can do for you , but what you can do for your country*

The average Nigerian has a grabbing mentality. I have seen the Nigerian Psyche in display in various forums. The average Nigerian is interested in not in the common good , but what he or she will make out of the situation .There appears a unity of greed , even at the lower rung of our society. The average Nigerian leader has a more benevolent and populist heart than the average Nigerian follower.

See the Civil Service, for instance . Some civil servants will give you reasons why your issue is not moving forward. If you get the message, you give the envelope, if you didn't, woe betide you .

Those in the Security Agencies are looking for one way or the order to extort money from citizens ,who are randomly arrested from the road and who are mostly innocent.

Some of those in the media can only write favourable stories if you pay them money. They distort fact for cash .Refuse to report what is correct because it is against their interest.

Some of those in the Civil Society are paid hire lings. Some of them are now intellectual mob , some times paid to cause pandemonium and push issues that are some times completely false. I call those ones evil society, not civil society.

Some of those in the legal profession turn white to black and black to white. They change the course of things based on pecuniary gains , which are causing other people pain and bringing shame to the profession .

Some of those in religion are stealing and cheating in the name of God .Some of them trademark the name of God for trade .Some of these religious houses collect more money from citizens than the state collects as taxes .While the matra is that their home is beyond the sky , They are building sky scrappers that are high .Perhaps they are building a ladder to heaven .

Some of these in hospitals , like blood sucking demons , use humans as an instrument of trade .They hide drugs and resell them at exorbitant rates , while those who need the drugs are groaning to death in hospital beds.

Those in schools, both pre - and post tertiary, collect illegal fees and some times, pass students, not based on intelligence, but based on orgasm or sorting . They hardly teach in class , but rather sell hand outs .

Some of those in business? create artificial price hikes and sometimes artificial scarcity to put the price high .Even those who sell foodstuffs increase their prices ,when the dollar rises , when there no relationship between farm produce and dollars .

Some of the artisans like mechanics , eletrhcains .plumbers lie about prices of parts for cars , electricity, and plumbing .They will remove the good parr if your car and put the fake one .

Some Landlords increase their rent indiscriminately or even give young girls quit notice , when they ask them.for sex and they say no .

The average Nigerian does not obey traffic. They brat traffic with reckless abandon .They throw away debt indiscriminately .

All these persons mentioned above are condemning President Tinubu,Governor Okpebholo, and LG Chairman Iduseri.Their only grouse is that they are not the ones at the realms of affairs , else they will do worse .Most Nigerians are worse than those they condemn. There is a Nigeria in all of us .

The building of a nation is a collective exercise. When what you do is destroying the nation, you have no moral standing to condemn anyone .What you are , are pots calling kettle black .

If you really love Nigeria, do your bit, and you wilĺ see that things will begin to take shape , little by little. Little drops of water make an ocean .

So before you condemn that leader, ask yourself, "Am.I doing well myself?".
