Anambra House of Reps Member Allegedly Assaults Businessman over alleged criticism

An accusation has been made against a member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), representing Anambra East and West Constituency at the Federal House of Representatives, Chinedu Obidigwe, alongside his Chief Security Officer (CSO), Nnamdi Adimora, popularly known as Akwada, for allegedly assaulting and battering an Awka-based businessman, Chinedu Anaukwu, in the company of eight others.

The assault was said to have been executed on the victim at the residence of one Reverend (Fr.) John Manafa at Igboezunu village, in Aguleri, Anambra State.

Anaukwu, who is currently receiving medical attention at the Life International Hospital, Awka, was allegedly assaulted and battered by the suspected thugs on the instruction of the lawmaker

It would be recalled that the House of Reps member had made an allegation that the allegedly assaulted businessman was working for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) House of Reps candidate for Anambra East and West in the forthcoming election, Obinna Emeneka.

Obidigwe had equally alleged that the victim had been criticising his none execution and attraction of constituency projects for his community.

The businessman, who is from Aguleri, had in the past requested that the Federal House of Reps member intimate the community with evidence of the execution of constituency projects in his area as well as those attracted to the community since he was elected.

The House of Reps member had listed as his achievements, the empowerment projects of Mrs. Ebele Obiano, wife of the former governor of the state, as his achievements

The victim was said to have faulted his claims and insisted that no new projects had been executed since Mrs. Obiano left office. This encounter was said to have angered Mr. Obidigwe, who viewed his action as an affront

Trouble however, started when Mr. Anaukwu, who had a scheduled business meeting with Mr. Primus Odili, former Chief of Staff to former governor Willie Obiano, called on Rev Fr. Manafa.

It was learned that on arrival at the venue, they incidentally met the convoy of the Federal House of Reps member, and on sighting Mr. Anaukwu, his CSO, Mr. Nnamdi Adimora, alerted the House member, pointing at Mr. Anaukwu as the one who had been criticising him.

Our correspondent further learned that Mr. Obidigwe rose from his seat and went to where the businessman was seated and allegedly slapped him several times.

It was gathered that Mr. Anaukwu, who expressed shock and dismay over his level of assault on his person had hardly recovered from the slaps when he ordered his other men, numbering about eight, to hold him on both hands while he dealt blows on his head, his face, breaking his eyeglasses and body and leaving him with severe injuries.

Not satisfied with the injuries inflicted on him, he was alleged to have ordered his CSO and men to kill the victim

The assault and battery, It was learnt, led to multiple head injuries. which was learnt, led to the victim being rushed to Life International Hospital Awka where he is currently receiving treatment.

As of the time of filing this report, the matter has been reported at Otuocha Police station
