Kings College old boy rewards principal and students with N11m

Alhaji Kashim Ibrahim-Imam, the immediate past President, King’s College Old Boys Association (KCOB), on Thursday rewarded some students and principal of the college with N1million each, for excellent performance.

Ibrahim-Imam made the donation at the 2022/2023 Speech and Prize-Giving Day ceremony in Lagos with the theme, “Maintaining Focus and Determination: Key to Academic Success”.

The School-Based Management Committee (SBMC) and the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of the institution also gave cash gifts to some students for excellence in other categories.

Ibrahim-Iman said that the donation was to motivate and encourage the students to do more.

He stated that the gesture was his way of giving back to the society, noting that it was not enough to be a student in the best college in Nigeria.

“Of essence is to show good leadership quality, be best in character, conduct, academics, sports, extracurricular activities and morals, among others, which is why we are here today.

“During my time, belonging to one extracurricular activity or the other was compulsory. It helped in leadership training and all-round development.

“Focus, diligence, determination and critical thinking are key,” adding “attending King’s college is one of the best things that has happened to me.

“So, for me, it is time to give back and encourage these young ones to aim higher,” he said.

The Principal of the college, Mr Andrew Agada, who is one of the awardees, said he felt humbled to have been recognised by an old boy of the college.

Agada described the gesture as unprecedented and stated that the memory would last for a long time to come.

“I have not witnessed this kind of kindness before. I have not witnessed it anywhere.

“Kashim Ibrahim-Imam is somebody who has passion for the college, always motivating the students and staff as you can see it practically demonstrated today.

“For him to bring out N11 million to donate to the students and my humble self, speaks volumes of the level of love and passion he has for the institution.

“We will continue to appreciate and uphold him and his family in prayers. I never knew that someone somewhere is taking cognisance of our little contribution in the all-round development of these students. I feel humbled.

“Even during his tenure as president, he was able to mobilise the old boys massively to the college and in conjunction with the SBMC chairman, Mr Jani Ibrahim, moved the college forward.

“If we should have about five or six of their type in the college, I can assure you that the institution will be totally transformed,’’ he said.

He noted that the donation would spur the students to do more in their academics and other school activities.

Among the students who benefited from the cash award were those with the best results in the 2023 West African Senior School Examinations (WASSCE).

The student with the highest score in the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) by JAMB was also among the beneficiaries.

Other awards were cash prizes of N50,000 to students, academic and non-academic staff of the college in various categories
